Welcome to HYCH!

Providing a variety of yoga instruction to our diverse clients in a thoughtful, energizing and professional setting.

Welcome to Hot Yoga Capitol Hill. We are a diverse, inclusive community dedicated to supporting those just starting or continuing on their yoga/wellness journey. Established in 2005, Hot Yoga Capitol Hill (previously known as Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill) offers a full schedule of hot yoga classes (26+2.) We have added hot pilates and other styles of yoga (some non-heated classes) to complement the hot yoga classes and meet the needs of this growing population. Our instructors are trained and classes are taught for people of all levels of yoga experience–from beginners to advanced practitioners.

Lara Atella

Lara Atella

Lara feels very fortunate to be the Director/Owner of HYCH and part of this inclusive, caring community that began with the vision of Elizabeth Glover over 16 years ago! When Lara came to her first hot yoga class she was a skeptic–she had not been a fan of heat nor of yoga classes in past. To her surprise after stepping through the doors yoga began to be a part of her life and Hot Yoga Capitol Hill studio her second home. Within a month she bought a year membership, and then she was off to Bikram Yoga teacher training in 2010. In 2010 she joined the HYCH teaching team and became a studio manager. She became owner of HYCH in 2017. Lara has trained in various traditions of yoga and is an E-RYT 200 and YACEP. She leads training and workshops and has contributed to articles in various sources including the New York Times and Washington Post. She enjoys teaching and taking classes regularly at Hot Yoga Capitol Hill because it is a true community that gives back to the neighborhood and prides itself on its diversity, wonderful students, and thoughtful teachers and staff. During the COVID pandemic, Lara also taught yoga to the Washington Wizards Basketball team as part of their training program. Lara’s background, graduate degree, and work at Johns Hopkins and NIH in neurobehavioral science has helped her to appreciate yoga even more, and she enjoys sharing insights with her students. Lara lives just blocks away from the studio in Capitol Hill with her two wonderful children who love back bending!

LaShone Wilson

LaShone Wilson

LaShone became a certified Bikram yoga teacher in 2012 after practicing in the hot room regularly for over 6 years. In addition to Bikram Yoga she teaches children’s Hatha Yoga at BYCH and DC public schools. LaShone has star quality and is adored by student of all ages. She believes strongly that “yoga and life are one.” She describes how life reflects yoga as yoga reflects life and that yoga can be used as a tool for fulfillment. LaShone explains, “Yoga helps us to examine our true self, starting and ending with our breath. As we enter the room, the issues of life accompany us and with each posture we open our minds and bodies while recognizing our limits but often overcoming them as we grow.” She has found that alignment through the breath and postures is satisfying but also truly different each day. LaShone Wilson is also the CEO and Founder of One Breath at a Time, LLC, which has created a dynamic curriculum with enough flexibility to effectively teach yoga and mindfulness to children of varying physical capabilities and learning styles.

Amber Paranick

Amber Paranick

As a graduate student living in Pittsburgh in 2007, Amber attended a free Saturday morning yoga class at her local public library. She learned three important things from that first class: 1: that it's okay to fall asleep in savasana, 2: that it's even more okay to have fun with the practice (make a cawing sound in crow pose? sure, why not!), and 3: that yoga is for everyone. Yoga has taught her many things since then, but most importantly, it's taught her how to be more present in her daily life. Amber started practicing at HYCH in October 2009 and considers the studio her home away from home. She completed a 200-hr teacher training program in 2014 and a yoga sculpt training in 2020.
